Geosciences is the broad scientific study of the Earth, focusing on its origin, structure, composition, processes, and history. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrology, paleontology, and climatology, all of which contribute to understanding the planet as a dynamic system. Geoscientists investigate the formation of rocks and minerals, the movement of tectonic plates, the cycling of water and other natural resources, and the interactions between the atmosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere. This field also plays a vital role in exploring energy and mineral resources, managing groundwater, and assessing natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. With the increasing challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable development, geosciences provides critical insights into Earth system processes that guide decision-making for resource management, disaster mitigation, and environmental protection. Ultimately, the discipline bridges fundamental scientific inquiry with practical applications, ensuring a deeper understanding of Earth and its relationship with human society.
Frequency: Bi-annual
Aims & Scope
The Malaysian Journal of Geosciences is an international, peer-reviewed journal that provides a platform for the dissemination of original research, reviews, and applied studies in all fields of geosciences. Its primary aim is to advance knowledge and understanding of Earth’s processes, resources, and hazards, with a particular focus on studies relevant to Malaysia, Asia, and the African subcontinent. More broadly, it emphasizes geoscientific research across the Asia–Africa region.
The journal welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that integrate field investigations, laboratory studies, modeling, and applied research to address both fundamental and practical aspects of Earth sciences. By bringing together academic researchers, industry experts, and policymakers, The Malaysian Journal of Geosciences seeks to promote sustainable development, natural resource management, and resilience against geohazards within Malaysia and beyond.
